So in 1983 our dear president Reagan proposed the SDI project, a space-based defense system. It would use laser type weapons to shoot stuff down. The official word was to shoot down the Soviets ICBM’s. Work was started in 1984 but never completed; word has it the sheer complexity of the project was beyond our capacity at that time. The cost of this project was staggering – or would have been staggering – but most of the funding was dropped by later administrations. Today there is still a framework called National Missile Defense. Of course the conspiracy groupies howled loudly that SDI was the system to save the world from those space guys, who would attack someday.
Now Reagan actually fanned the flames of this conspiracy. On December 4, 1985, Reagan spoke at a high school about a conversation he had with General Secretary Gorbachev stating the following: “how easy his task and mine might be in the meeting that we held if suddenly there was a threat to this world from some other species from another planet outside in the universe. We’d forget all the little local differences that we have between our countries.” In 1987 Gorbachev confirmed the above conversation with our president.
So now I read the other day that we (the US) have developed and successfully tested a laser weapon fired from a ship. Maybe this says to us all that our military is dusting off its laser weapons and getting ready for a fight, but with whom? The cold war is over, and we have enough conventional and nuclear weapons to destroy the earth many times over.
Also note about a two years ago I was at a gathering for Kirtland AFB and during the meeting they showed us all one of their new proud toys. This toy was a huge laser attached to a plane as big as a 747. This plane had the ability to search the earth from high altitude and sense missiles coming out of silos and destroy them before they got completely out of their holes. It was also capable of destroying all air-to-air missiles over long distances with the same effectiveness.
This announcement about the ship laser weapon was on the 42-year anniversary of the date of our first walk on the moon. A walk on the moon in which many say, including an astronaut or two, that we were not alone.
And now the happy question is, is the battle for earth going to begin soon? I say could be.
We are getting our weapons readied.
